Eighteenth-century military careerists often looked to historical texts to enrich their knowledge, and Julius Caesar's Commentaries on the Gallic Wars held a prominent place in an officer's education. Join Rachel Jirka, research services librarian, for a discussion of the Gallic Wars and the significance of Caesar's commentaries in the eighteenth century. The lecture will last approximately 30 minutes with time after for questions and up-close viewing of the object.
Free and open to the public, no RSVPs necessary. Lecture will be held in the Research Library at the Society of the Cincinnati's headquarters at Anderson House (2118 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington DC 20008).
